BEACHIN’ IN ‘BAMA
Vacation with the Hayes family returned in full force in 2021 with a week long trip to Gulf Shores, AL! Sun, sand, seafood, & smiles! Since we opted to drive the 800+ miles due south, we made a pit stop in Memphis, TN! David & I arrived in the birthplace of Rock & Roll on Friday evening and spent the night listening to Blues music, eating BBQ at BB King’s Blues Club, and enjoying the sights and sounds of Beale Street. I was in heaven listening to Memphis’s best performers play/sing Elvis Presley’s most famous songs!
The next morning we set out for the second half of the trip…much of it through Mississippi (another state checked off my list). Finally, we made it to the beach house! Our house was feet from the ocean and a perfect place to gather with family for a week of fun! We made a goal to find Gulf Shore’s best coffee shop and found ourselves in one almost every morning. My personal favorite? The Southern Grind Coffee Shop & Bakery! David’s favorite? West Beach Coffee House! After morning coffee, we spent most days relaxing in the sand/cooling off in the water/doing all of the beach things! We even did some Stand Up Paddle Boarding!
While not at the beach, we spent time on the golf course, shopped at the outlet mall, got our nails done, and experienced our first The Yard Milkshakes ($20 for a milkshake and worth every penny). As promised, the seafood was plentiful, especially for dinner! Our dinner at The Hangout Seafood Restaurant even featured family members dancing on tables as part of the restaurant entertainment (jump on it!).
What a way to spend a week in late July! ‘Bama definitely didn’t disappoint for this summer getaway!
