THE BEST OF THE REST

Hello blogging world! (from 6 feet away)

It feels good to be here…my first blog post!

Not that you need an update, but it’s April 2020, and we have all been stuck in our homes for 30+ days due to a pandemic. If you’re like me, you have been trying to find anything outside of your ordinary life to do during this time of social distancing. All in the name of keeping busy! This is the time for things you say you never have time for, and this blog is a product of just that! I have been thinking about starting a blog for a few years now to work as a creative outlet for me. I’m an Accountant…a Certified Public Accountant (go big or go home). If you know anything about the business world, you know being an accountant is the furthest thing from creativity. Don’t get me wrong, I was SO destined for this profession. There are several members in my family that chose this career, and I have a natural way with numbers. However, I was born with a creative side which my accounting career has no use for. Still, life gets busy and I never found a reason to get my blogging journey off the ground. However, there was one thing that made me start this blog which has been on my heart for a while now…enter COVID-19 and mandatory stay-at-home regulations!

To kick things off, I want to share a little act of love I did a few weeks ago to brighten some family members’ spirits during this difficult time. COOKIE DELIVERIES!!

I have been dabbling in creating royal icing decorated sugar cookies for better than a year. If you know anything about baking and decorating cookies, you know royal icing is beautiful but can be a real chore to get just right. I did take it easy on myself by making Betty Crocker’s boxed cookies. Don’t hate – that Betty sure can bake!! Once I had the cookies ready to distribute, I put them in cute little bags and attached a note.

My husband and I ding dong ditched our loved ones with the cookies sitting on their front porch! (I hadn’t ding dong ditched anyone since high school – I forgot how fun it is!) Something as small as a surprise to a loved one is a way of “helping” during this crisis, and I hope this inspires you to do so!

Thanks for reading my first post – hope to see you back soon!
