HOME IS WHERE THE OFFICE IS
Like much of the world, I’ve been spending more time at home. More time hanging out in the backyard, going on neighborhood walks, watching crappy TV, and inevitably, working from my home office. Thankfully, I have the ability to work remotely which means you can find me in my office with sweatpants on, hair up, and Friends re-runs playing in the background. After too many days of looking at bare, white office walls, I started to add fun pieces to the space to boost my mood and creativity and make me feel comfortable. My vision was a space that is comfy and relaxed but not so much where I might nod off. Since I don’t plan on snoozing at my work station (all the power to ya if you do), I added some things that help keep me focused at the same time. Here’s what works for me!
Let’s start with the desk. I got this at Weekends Only several years ago. Honestly, I think it’s a kid’s desk but less surface space means less clutter! It was pretty easy on the pocketbook and has the perfect amount of drawer/cubby space for all my office needs.
It wouldn’t be a comfy office without a comfy, swivel chair. This chair adds just the right amount of color and fun! I got it from Walmart this year!
An office is the perfect space for a motivational sign. You know when you’re feeling intimidated by a lengthy tax workpaper (just me?) and you need something to pick your spirits up? This “You Got This” sign is hung right above my desk for good reason.
I also have a fun shelving unit right above my desk with pictures of loved ones and my greatest accomplishments. A lot of time (& tears) went into earning one of the papers up there. I think it’s a good idea to have your reasons why you do what you do right in front of you. It gives you a real “Let’s tackle the world” type of energy!
A desk calendar is a must for me! This one is hot off the Amazon press and keeps me in line all year long.
Is your space even an office without an office plant? I have a cactus terrarium in mine. Cacti have yet to pop up, but I have faith. This kit from Hobby Lobby is a low maintenance, different take on the traditional office plant. Let’s face it, you would forget to water any other plant anyways.
In an effort to bring more color to the space, I added mason jars filled with colorful markers and essential office supplies. That’s what I call practical office decor!
Thanks for going on my home office tour! I have found that certain surroundings can help me think more clearly and creatively. Give your home office a fresh look, and when you create the world’s next best thing with the new perspective, you can thank me.
