SPRINGTIME IN SAVANNAH
A much needed spring break and a Catholic Confirmation for a cousin led David and I to Georgia in April 2022. We started the trip with an early Wednesday morning flight to Savannah. Once in town, we ate at Chicken Salad Chick (yum!) and took a quick nap at the hotel before some afternoon/evening exploring. Savannah’s Riverwalk was a fun place to start as it is lined with shops, restaurants, and bars with a beautiful view of the Savannah River. We choose to eat at Paula Dean’s The Lady & Sons Restaurant on a recommendation that didn’t disappoint. An entire table full of family style plates left David and I very satisfied and wondering why we had to eat the last of the cheese biscuits – oh yeah, they were de-li-cious!
The next day we were up and at ’em to check out the gems of Savannah – their 22 town squares/parks! Forsyth Park is the largest and most famous Savannah park covering several blocks with an iconic fountain in the middle. To see and learn more about the city, we purchased tickets for the day on the Hop On & Off Trolley. Top sights included the house where the Girl Scouts Organization was formed, Mercer house, the star of the book Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil, and the rest of the Spanish moss lined squares/parks/statues that this Southern city is known for. We ate lunch at City Market and spent time on the Riverwalk before dinner at Sorry Charlie’s Oyster Bar and mojitos at Mint To Be Mojito Bar. On the way back to the hotel, we drove by the home of the Savannah Banana’s baseball team!
On Friday, we drove to Tybee Island (a half hour east) to dip our toes in the Atlantic Ocean. What a cute beach town for a morning walk! Then, it was back in the car for the drive to Atlanta for Grace’s Confirmation, party, a backyard movie, and family time! Georgia, we will be back 🙂
